This fabulous veggie food store unashamedly has a hippie reputation-Neil from the 1980s BBC comedy The Young Ones would probably shop there for his lentils (yes they sell them)! The Eighth Day sells an excellent selection of veggie and vegan stuff such as Bombay mix, sausages from normally carnivorous Germany, veggie Haggis from Scotland, the Australian Orgran foods range, and specialty teas. On Inner Sanctuary Retreat
For anyone living and working in the city centre, this spa does exactly what it claims to: it really is a calming sanctuary right in the heart of Manchester. Aside from the slightly bonkers questionnaire we had to fill out at the start of our visit, the whole experience was really relaxing and pleasant. We had a lovely mini organic facial and were offered a double room on booking (for a shared birthday treat) which was much appreciated. The treatments were carried out by a pair of very competent and softly-spoken young ladies, who were consistenly polite and friendly. Because payment was taken in advance we were able to stumble undisturbed and a little dazed back onto High Street without the need for crude financial reality to intervene. Their September offer of 25% discount on facials is well worth it.
