I've been to the Manchester Art Gallery, and always wonder why I don't go more. To be honest I think that about the Whitworth as well. A trip always seems to do wonders for me- I find it refreshing and grounding. I like the Art Gallery. It's in a great building and the combination of the old architecture and the new building works well. THey have got exhibitions rolling which are worth checking out, and the value is great!

Can't get much better value than Free. It was good news when this opened, and I often enjoy popping in when I've got a spare 20 minutes. Got some good exhibitions on at different times of the year. Check out their programme.

Manchester Art Gallery is a beautiful old building in the centre of town and has a wide variety of sculpture and art exhibitions. Entry is free and it's really accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. Over the summer they had a great Charlie & Lola exhibition geared towards children that was interactive and fun. The staff are keen to help and altho you're not officially allowed to take your own food into the gallery (due to their on site cafe and restaurant) they do let you eat packed lunches in the atrium bit. The gift shop is a bit pricey but sells some beautiful cards and gifts inspired by the artwork in the gallery.

Great free art gallery, with interesting exhibitions and well equipped and thought out for kids. They always run good activities for children, especially in the holidays. It has a lovely atmosphere and the facilities are great. Good cafe too. A great idea if you're stuck for an idea what to do with the kids.
