Despite having lived in manchester for over 10 years now, i only recently ventured into the Whitworth Art Gallery with my kids during half term. They laid on a fabulous range of holiday activities, all for free, and run by really friendly, artistic peeps from the gallery. We attended an arty picnic (indoors) where we made tiger masks from a host of crafty bits and bobs...and another day we joined in a mobile-making session. My 3 daughters LOVED it and can't wait to go back at Easter!

The room with the wall of windows looking out over the trees and green of Whitworth park is one of my fave places in Manchester....hidden gem.

I'm really impressed by the effort made by the gallery for children and families. We had lots of fun in the teepees and creative space upstairs. The gallery also offered a free room for a community event I organised which was a huge benefit.

Having been at University with the music department a matter of metres away from the art gallery, I loved being able bob along here. Have good ongoing selections of exhibitions which normally run for three months. Entrance is free, and they have a cafe within. Its understated and consistent. Even just to pop in for a quick 10 minute run around is worth it!

Has a good varied selection of fine art, modern art, textiles and sulpture. Well worth a visit. Check website for opening times before you go as its not open 9-5.
